Disclaimer

If you do not know me (I mean, really know me) then there is something you need to understand before you read this blog: I value the truth above everything else... except a good laugh. A good laugh will almost always beat the truth as far as I’m concerned. Everything you read on this blog will be true, somewhat true, or something I made up in an effort to get a laugh. Sometimes I will go on a rant that I don’t really mean (or only kind of mean). Sometimes I will mean what I write only to completely change my mind a year, month, or day later. Such is life. By reading this blog you agree not to get offended by anything I write (or, at the very least, you agree not to tell me or anyone else that you are offended). It is worth noting that my employer does not endorse my blog (or even read it, to tell you the truth). The Wife also does not endorse my blog (though she will read it from time to time). I am not paid to write this... it’s just my way of giving back to the community. I have, and will, touch on a wide range of subjects and will give my opinion on these subjects. Again, most of what I say is for laughs but every now and then I will say what I really think and feel (see my views on Westboro Baptist Cult). How will you know when I’m serious and when I’m trying to get a laugh? You’ll know. And if you don’t know, well... maybe this isn’t the best thing for you to be reading. So, sit back, read and enjoy. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUSIE!!!!!!!!!

Before we get to our post, I would like to remind you that while I’ve reached my goal, that doesn’t mean you can’t still give. There’s still time to join me in my fight against Alzheimer’s. Don’t wait… give now… Give here.

So… guess who has a little two year old girl? That’s right, Me.  Susie turns two years old today. It seems like it was just yesterday that we were in the “hospital” trying to watch a little NFL football and have a baby. Then again, it pretty much was yesterday that we were in the “hospital” having Daniel, so maybe that’s what I’m thinking about. Anyway, Susie is a great little girl and I’m the luckiest guy in the world to have her.

She had her birthday party this past Sunday. I would like to thank all of you who were able to make it. I understand that some people were unable to make it. My friend Danny (yes, that Danny) told me he was going to be there… but he wasn’t there. The Wife wanted me to give him a hard time on here about that, but I’m not going to. Why? Because early on at the party Jeremy told me the news that Lattimore is out for the season. It was at that moment that I knew Danny was in a dark room in the fetal position crying about how in a one week period his Revolutionary War Heroes lost his two favorite players (Garcia, for good and Lattimore for the season). I figured he’d be in no position to play with Susie at her party.

It’s too bad he couldn’t make it because he missed seeing The Wife hobble around because apparently, she is unable to walk into that little house by the playground in front of the church without hurting her foot. I, of course, was the perfect husband and brought her “shoe” (the one she got the last time she hurt her foot) to her so she could stay at the party. After the party, her parents took the kids with them so I could take The Wife to our after-hours doctor’s office to get her foot x-rayed. Yep… forget about my plans for the night… I had to sit and listen to her try to explain how she hurt her foot so bad walking up a ramp. Oh, and she also tried to explain how she got a speeding ticket earlier in the day. Honestly, speeding on a Sunday?! You’ve GOT to be kidding me. We ended up being at the doctor’s office for about 3 hours (because they forgot we were there… really, they did). Anyway, here are a couple of pictures from Sunday.

I mean really, we had to go to the doctor for this? Rub a little dirt on it and get back in the party!

Susie taking a break at her party to take a pic with her big sister Mary Ruth and her little brother Daniel.

She LOVES the doggy (Dach) she got from Aunt Yvonne and Uncle George and the baby doll (Mary) she got from Nana and Da.

Know Your Medal of Honor Recipients:

Brigadier General Frederick W. Castle (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on December 24, 1944 in Germany. His citation reads:

He was air commander and leader of more than 2,000 heavy bombers in a strike against German airfields on 24 December 1944. En route to the target, the failure of 1 engine forced him to relinquish his place at the head of the formation. In order not to endanger friendly troops on the ground below, he refused to jettison his bombs to gain speed maneuverability. His lagging, unescorted aircraft became the target of numerous enemy fighters which ripped the left wing with cannon shells. set the oxygen system afire, and wounded 2 members of the crew. Repeated attacks started fires in 2 engines, leaving the Flying Fortress in imminent danger of exploding. Realizing the hopelessness of the situation, the bail-out order was given. Without regard for his personal safety he gallantly remained alone at the controls to afford all other crewmembers an opportunity to escape. Still another attack exploded gasoline tanks in the right wing, and the bomber plunged earthward. carrying Gen. Castle to his death. His intrepidity and willing sacrifice of his life to save members of the crew were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.

Lieutenant Guy Wilkinson Stuart Castle (US Navy) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on April 21-22, 1914 during engagements of Vera Cruz.. His citation reads:

For distinguished conduct in battle, engagements of Vera Cruz, 21 and 22 April 1914. Eminent and conspicuous in command of his battalion, Lt. Castle was in the fighting of both days, and exhibited courage and skill in leading his men through action. In seizing the customhouse, he encountered for many hours the heaviest and most pernicious concealed fire of the entire day, but his courage and coolness under trying conditions were marked.

Ordinary Seaman John Hugh Catherwood (US Navy) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on September 24, 1911 on the island of Basilan, Philippine Islands. His citation reads:

While attached to the U.S.S. Pampang, Catherwood was one of a shore party moving in to capture Mundang, on the island of Basilan, Philippine Islands, on the morning of 24 September 1911. Advancing with the scout party to reconnoiter a group of nipa huts close to the trail, Catherwood unhesitatingly entered the open area before the huts, where his party was suddenly taken under point-blank fire and charged by approximately 20 enemy Moros coming out from inside the native huts and from other concealed positions. Struck down almost instantly by the outlaws' deadly fire, Catherwood, although unable to rise, rallied to the defense of his leader and fought desperately to beat off the hostile attack. By his valiant effort under fire and in the face of great odds, Catherwood contributed materially toward the destruction and rout of the enemy.
