Know Your Medal of Honor Recipients:
Second Lieutenant James R. Durham (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on June 14, 1863 at Winchester, Virginia. His citation reads:
Led his command over the stone wall, where he was wounded.
Sergeant John S. Durham (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on October 8, 1862 at Perryville, Kentucky. His citation reads:
Seized the flag of his regiment when the color sergeant was shot and advanced with the flag midway between the lines, amid a shower of shot, shell, and bullets, until stopped by his commanding officer.
Blacksmith Austin J. Durney (US Navy) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on May 11, 1898 on board the USS Nashville. His citation reads:
On board the U.S.S. Nashville during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Durney set an example of extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action.
