Know Your Medal of Honor Recipients:
Private William P. MacLay (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on May 6, 1900, at Hilongas, Leyte, Philippine Islands. His citation reads:
Charged an occupied bastion, saving the life of an officer in a hand-to-hand combat and destroying the enemy.
Private Harry Lewis MacNeal (US Marine Corps) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on July 3, 1898, on board the U.S.S. Brooklyn. His citation reads:
On board the U.S.S. Brooklyn during action at the Battle of Santiago de Cuba, 3 July 1898. Braving the fire of the enemy, MacNeal displayed gallantry throughout this action.
Private Michael Madden (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on September 3, 1861, at Masons Island, Maryland. His citation reads:
Assisted a wounded comrade to the riverbank and, under heavy fire of the enemy, swam with him across a branch of the Potomac to the Union lines.
