Know Your Medal of Honor Recipients:
Private Joseph John Franklin (US Marine Corps) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on May 11, 1898, on board the USS Nashville. His citation reads:
On board the U.S.S. Nashville during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Franklin set an example of extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action.
Seaman William J. Franks (US Navy) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on March 5, 1864, on board the USS Marmora. His citation reads:
Served on board the U.S.S. Marmora off Yazoo City, Miss., 5 March 1864. Embarking from the Marmora with a 12-pound howitzer mounted on a field carriage, Franks landed with the gun and crew in the midst of heated battle and, bravely standing by his gun despite enemy rifle fire which cut the gun carriage and rammer contributed to the turning back of the enemy during the fierce engagement.
Private Joseph Frantz (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on May 2, 1863, at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His citation reads:
Gallantry in the charge of the "volunteer storming party.
