Disclaimer

If you do not know me (I mean, really know me) then there is something you need to understand before you read this blog: I value the truth above everything else... except a good laugh. A good laugh will almost always beat the truth as far as I’m concerned. Everything you read on this blog will be true, somewhat true, or something I made up in an effort to get a laugh. Sometimes I will go on a rant that I don’t really mean (or only kind of mean). Sometimes I will mean what I write only to completely change my mind a year, month, or day later. Such is life. By reading this blog you agree not to get offended by anything I write (or, at the very least, you agree not to tell me or anyone else that you are offended). It is worth noting that my employer does not endorse my blog (or even read it, to tell you the truth). The Wife also does not endorse my blog (though she will read it from time to time). I am not paid to write this... it’s just my way of giving back to the community. I have, and will, touch on a wide range of subjects and will give my opinion on these subjects. Again, most of what I say is for laughs but every now and then I will say what I really think and feel (see my views on Westboro Baptist Cult). How will you know when I’m serious and when I’m trying to get a laugh? You’ll know. And if you don’t know, well... maybe this isn’t the best thing for you to be reading. So, sit back, read and enjoy. Leave comments if you want and don’t be afraid to publicly follow me.

One of those lives…

Know Your Medal of Honor Recipients:

Private Jerome Morford (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on May 22, 1863, at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His citation reads:

Gallantry in the charge of the "volunteer storming party."

Second Lieutenant George H. Morgan (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on July 17, 1882, at Big Dry Fork, Arizona. His citation reads:

Gallantly held his ground at a critical moment and fired upon the advancing enemy (hostile Indians) until he was disabled by a shot.

Captain of the Top James H. Morgan (US Navy) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on August 5, 1864, on board the U.S.S. Richmond. His citation reads:

As captain of a gun on board the U.S.S. Richmond during action against rebel forts and gunboats and with the Tennessee in Mobile Bay, 5 August 1864. Despite damage to his ship and the loss of several men on board as enemy fire raked her decks Morgan fought his gun with skill and courage throughout a furious 2_hour battle which resulted in the surrender of the rebel ram Tennessee and in the damaging and destruction of batteries at Fort Morgan.

The song that’s at the top of my playlist at the moment is a little number by my dear friend (my words, not his) Brad Paisley called One of Those Lives. I will now pause while you go to YouTube and listen to it…

For you slackers who couldn’t take the time to go listen to the song, I’ll tell you it’s about a guy ticked off in traffic who gets a call from his wife telling him that the son of some people they know has cancer. It’s a great song at reminding me that even with all the problems I face from day to day (and there are probably more than you realize… but less than I think), there’s always someone out there with bigger problems. The song actually reminds me of my friend Chuck and his son Chase (who, you will remember, had cancer… to my knowledge it hasn’t returned, so it’s not exactly like the song… but still). Anyway, if you look below at my Flashback pictures, you will notice that I didn’t flashback too far. I’ve included some family pictures from two years ago and from this past December. The thing they have in common is that they were taken by the same person (Alicia). She found out this week that she has breast cancer (she put it on Facebook, so it’s safe for me to post it here). If you want to keep up with her on Facebook, just “like” the page Brave for Dave. That’s the page she set up for her husband (Dave) who has a very rare and aggressive form of thymic cancer which is (for now, at least) considered incurable. Oh… they have a (9 year old, I think) son. So… you know… I wish I had something funny to say here, because that’s kind of my “move” in situations like this, but…

I guess this best thing right now (and always, for that matter) is to ask that you pray for them. Thanks…

Flashback Friday

I love how Mary Ruth is kissing Daniel while Susie looks like she is going to take a bite out of him...

Everyone is looking at the camera... except for Daniel, who is checking his zipper... or just looking at the ground.

Susie and her BFF Ansley

That Sonny... so immature.  By the way, this is one of those pictures that is on my list of "Reasons I think I'm adopted".  I'm huge compared to the rest of my family (and I don't just mean fat huge... I mean I'm built bigger than everyone else).

Austin was a great guy trying to get Daniel to smile...
