Below you will find a preview for next Tuesday’s NCIS season 8 finale. I believe I have already told you I am excited about this. This is still true. I have been watching a NCIS marathon today and I can honestly tell you I can’t get enough of this show. The Wife likes it ok… but she thinks I let the girls watch it too much. I have to tell you, she might be on to something. Mary Ruth knows all the characters on the show… and the other day Susie walked into the room and yelled “Clear!” So maybe they do watch it a lot, but so what? They also watch things that are age appropriate for them. Listen, do you think when I was growing up we watched what I wanted to watch or what Dad wanted to watch? Shoot, even if Dad wasn’t home I still didn’t get to pick what we would watch. I’d have to watch what Sonny wanted to watch or what No Name Teri wanted to watch (Mom would get to pick before Sonny, but I don’t really remember her watching TV much which is why I didn’t mention her before Sonny). That’s why little Greg grew up watching anything from Bonanza reruns to MTV (back when they played music videos) to General Hospital. That’s just how things work. It’s not like I’m watching the Sopranos with them. I’ve even cut back watching House with them. But I have to draw a line in the sand right here and say that I will not stop watching NCIS just because they are in the room. This is good wholesome American TV and if it teaches them to scan a room when entering to make sure there are no bad guys in there, then I think I’m doing the right thing by letting them watch it.

We will now continue our countdown of the I’m just sayin… Top 1,081 Songs of All Time
626 - “It's Still Rock and Roll to Me” by Billy Joel
“What's the matter with the car I'm driving?/ ‘Can't you tell that it's out of style?’/ Should I get a set of while wall tires?/ ‘Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?’/ Nowadays you can't be too sentimental/ Your best bet's a true baby blue Continental./ Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk/ It's still rock and roll to me”
625 - “Daniel” by Elton John
“Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane/ I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain/ Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye/ God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes”
624 - “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter
“Cause you had a bad day/ You're taking one down/ You sing a sad song just to turn it around/ You say you don't know/ You tell me don't lie/ You work at a smile and you go for a ride/ You had a bad day/ The camera don't lie/ You're coming back down and you really don't mind/ You had a bad day/ You had a bad day”
As you can tell from the songs at the start of this post, I have a thing for good piano songs. And this is a pretty good piano song.
623 - “After Midnight” by Eric Clapton
“After midnight, we're gonna let it all hang down./ After midnight, we're gonna chug-a-lug and shout./ We're gonna stimulate some action;/ We're gonna get some satisfaction./ We're gonna find out what it is all about./ After midnight, we're gonna let it all hang down.”
After midnight, I’m usually in bed asleep. But this is still a great song.
622 - “Jealous Guy” by John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band
“I didn't mean to hurt you,/ I'm sorry that I made you cry,/ I didn't want to hurt you,/ I'm just a jealous guy,”
I wouldn’t consider myself to be a very big “solo John Lennon” fan… he’s probably my 3rd favorite Beatle. But a good song is a good song and this is a good song.
621 - “Hey Jealousy” by Gin Blossoms
“And you can trust me not to think/ And not to sleep around/ If you don't expect too much from me/ You might not be let down/ Cause all I really want is to be with you/ Feeling like I matter too/ If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago/ I might be here with you”
This is probably the only Gin Blossoms song I liked before I had a chance to hear them open for a Hootie concert.
620 - “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd
“And be a simple kind of man./ Be something you love and understand./ Be a simple kind of man./ Won't you do this for me son,/ If you can?/ Forget your lust for the rich man's gold/ All that you need is in your soul,/ And you can do this if you try./ All that I want for you my son,/ Is to be satisfied.”
619 - “Another Day in Paradise” by Phil Collins
“She calls out to the man on the street/ ‘Sir, can you help me?/ It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep,/ Is there somewhere you can tell me?’/ He walks on, doesn't look back/ He pretends he can't hear her/ Starts to whistle as he crosses the street/ Seems embarrassed to be there”
618 - “I Want To Hold Your Hand” by The Beatles
“Oh, please, say to me/ You´ll let me be your man/ And please, say to me/ You´ll let me hold your hand/ Now let me hold your hand/ I wanna hold your hand”
617 - “I Can't Hold Back” by Survivor
“I can't hold back, I'm on the edge/ (I can't hold back)/ You voice explodes inside my head/ I can't hold back, I won't back down/ Girl it's too late to turn back now”
It won’t take much for this song to get stuck in your head.
616 - “This Magic Moment” by The Drifters
“This magic moment/ So different and so new/ Was like any other/ Until I kissed you/ And then it happened/ It took me by surprise/ I knew that you felt it too/ By the look in your eyes”
615 - “Meet Virginia” by Train
“She doesn't own a dress/ Her hair is always a mess/ If you catch her stealin'/ She won't confess/ She's beautiful./ Smokes a pack a day/ Wait that's me, but anyway/ She doesn't care a thing about that, hey/ She thinks I'm beautiful.”
I LOVE the above lyrics. The whole song is good, but these lyrics are what hooked me.
614 - “Leather and Lace” by Stevie Nicks with Don Henley
“You in the moonlight/ With your sleepy eyes/ Could you ever love a man like me/ And you were right/ When I walked into your house/ I knew I'd never want to leave”
A great little slow song that I believe Stevie Nicks wrote for Waylon Jennings to sing with Jessi Colter but ended up doing the song (and other things) with Don Henley.
613 - “I Run To You” by Lady Antebellum
“I run from pain/ I run from prejudice/ I run from pessimists/ But I run too late/ I run my life/ Or is it running me/ Run from my past/ I run too fast/ Or too slow it seems/ When lies become the truth/ That’s when I run to you”
612 - “Don't Blink” by Kenny Chesney
“Don't blink/ Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you/ Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife/ Don't blink/ You just might miss your babies growing like mine did/ Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your better half/ Of fifty years is there in bed/ And you're praying God takes you instead/ Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think/ So don't blink”
Another great “advice” type song.
611 - “Something Like That” by Tim McGraw
“It was Labor Day weekend I was seventeen/ I bought a Coke and some gasoline/
And I drove out to the county fair/ When I saw her for the first time/ She was standing there in the ticket line/ And it all started right then and there/ Oh, a sailor’s sky made a perfect sunset/ And that's the day I'll never forget”
610 - “Break Your Heart” by Barenaked Ladies
“And you said/ What'd you think that I was gonna do,/ Curl up and die just because of you?/ I'm not that weak, you know/ What'd you think that I was gonna do,/ Try to make you love me as much as I love you?/ How could you be so low?/ You arrogant man,/ What do you think that I am?/ My heart will be fine/ Just stop wasting my time”
I love the live version of this song… practically leaves me exhausted just listening to it.
609 - “Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)” by Billy Joel
“Goodnight, my angel/ Time to close your eyes/ And save these questions for another day/ I think I know what you've been asking me/ I think you know what I've been trying to say/ I promised I would never leave you/ And you should always know/ Wherever you may go/ No matter where you are/ I never will be far away”
608 - “I Want You” by Bon Jovi
“I never wanted the stars / I never shot for the moon/ I like them right where they are/ All I wanted was you/ So baby just turn away/ Because I can't face the truth/ All I'm trying to say/ Is all I wanted was you”
607 - “Space” by Hootie and the Blowfish
“I see it inside your eyes,/ feel it in your soul./ A part of you is moving on,/ the other half is gone./ I don't know what you want from me,/ no, you lock it all inside./ I try to give you everything,/ but there's nothing else that I can hide./ We've been trying so long./ You've been pushing too hard./ You should say what's wrong and echo what's right./ You need a little space and I need mine.”
606 - “Who You'd Be Today” by Kenny Chesney
“Sunny days seem to hurt the most/ Wear the pain like a heavy coat/ I feel you everywhere I go/ I see your smile, I see your face/ I hear you laughing in the rain/ Still can't believe you're gone”
A nice sad song.
605 - “Communication Breakdown” by Led Zeppelin
“Communication Breakdown, It's always the same,/ I'm having a nervous breakdown, Drive me insane!”
Wow… this song in the 600’s… that’s a bit of a surprise.
604 - “Faithfully” by Journey
“Highway run into the midnight sun/ Wheels go round and round/ You're on my mind/ Restless hearts sleep alone tonight/ Sending all my love along the wire/ They say that the road/ ain't no place to start a family/ Right down the line it's been you and me/ And loving a music man/ ain't always what it's supposed to be”
603 - “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die)” by Joe Diffie
“Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die/ Lord, I wanna go to heaven but I don't wanna go tonight/ Fill my boots up with sand, put a stiff drink in my hand/ Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die”
A funny ol’ Country song.
602 - “Only Lonely” by Hootie and the Blowfish
“I could start to give apologies/ For all the stupid things That I will say and I will do/ If we should ever cross the same place at the same time/ Would your world skip a beat 'cause it was me”
601 - “Thank You For Loving Me” by Bon Jovi
“It's hard for me to say the things/ I want to say sometimes/ There's no one here but you and me/ And that broken old street light/ Lock the doors/ We'll leave the world outside/ All I've got to give to you/ Are these five words tonight”
600 - “How 'Bout You” by Eric Church
“I still say: "Yes, Ma'am" to my Momma:/ How 'bout you?/ If I shake your hand, look you in the eye,/ You can bet your ass, it'll be the truth./ I cover my heart with my hat,/ When they fly that Red, White and Blue,/ Just like my Daddy taught me:/ How 'bout you?”
599 - “We Dance Anyway” by Deana Carter
“The summer air was heavy and sweet/ You and I on a crowded street/ There was music everywhere/ I can see us there/ In a happy little foreign town/ Where the stars are upside down/ A half a world away/ Far far away”
598 - “Foolin'” by Def Leppard
“Is anybody out there? Anybody there?/ Does anybody wonder? Anybody care?/
Oh, I just gotta know/ If you're really there and you really care/ 'Cause baby I'm not/ F-F-F-Foolin', Ah F-F-Foolin'/ Not F-F-F-Foolin', Ah F-F-Foolin'”
597 - “Old Apartment” by Barenaked Ladies
“Broke into the old apartment/ This is where we used to live/ Broken glass, broke and hungry/ Broken hearts and broken bones/ This is where we used to live”
596 - “Living in Sin” by Bon Jovi
“So baby, can you tell me just where we fit in/ I call it love they call it living in sin/ Is it you and me or just this world we live in/ I say we're living on love they say we're living in sin”
595 - “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba
“He drinks a Whiskey drink, he drinks a Vodka drink/ He drinks a Lager drink, he drinks a Cider drink/ He sings the songs that remind him of the good times/ He sings the songs that remind him of the better times/ (Oh Danny Boy, Danny Boy, Danny Boy)”
The Wife loves this song… and by loves I really mean hates.
594 - “I Don't Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith
“I don't wanna close my eyes/ I don't wanna fall asleep/ 'Cause I'd miss you, baby/ And I don't wanna miss a thing/ 'Cause even when I dream of you/ The sweetest dream would never do/ I'd still miss you, baby/ And I don't wanna miss a thing”
593 - “The River of Dreams” by Billy Joel
“In the middle of the night/ I go walking in my sleep/ From the mountains of faith/ To a river so deep/ I must be looking for something/ Something sacred I lost/ But the river is wide/ And it's too hard to cross”
I remember Dad and I would sing this song in the car together.
592 - “Just a Friend” by Biz Markie
“You, you got what I need but you say he's just a friend/ And you say he's just a friend, oh baby/ You, you got what I need but you say he's just a friend/ But you say he's just a friend, oh baby/ You, you got what I need but you say he's just a friend/ But you say he's just a friend”
Know Your Medal of Honor Recipients:
Sergeant Benjamin Brown (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on May 11, 1889 in Arizona. His citation reads:
Although shot in the abdomen, in a fight between a paymaster's escort and robbers, did not leave the field until again wounded through both arms.
Captain Bobbie E. Brown (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on October 8, 1944 at Crucifix Hill, Aachen, Germany. His citation reads:
He commanded Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment, on 8 October 1944, when it, with the Ranger Platoon of the 1st Battalion, attacked Crucifix Hill, a key point in the enemy's defense of Aachen, Germany. As the leading rifle platoon assaulted the first of many pillboxes studding the rising ground, heavy fire from a flanking emplacement raked it. An intense artillery barrage fell on the American troops which had been pinned down in an exposed position. Seeing that the pillboxes must be neutralized to prevent the slaughter of his men, Capt. Brown obtained a pole charge and started forward alone toward the first pillbox, about 100 yards away. Hugging the ground while enemy bullets whipped around him, he crawled and then ran toward the aperture of the fortification, rammed his explosive inside and jumped back as the pillbox and its occupants were blown up. He rejoined the assault platoon, secured another pole charge, and led the way toward the next pillbox under continuous artillery mortar, automatic, and small-arms fire. He again ran forward and placed his charge in the enemy fortification, knocking it out. He then found that fire from a third pillbox was pinning down his company; so he returned to his men, secured another charge, and began to creep and crawl toward the hostile emplacement. With heroic bravery he disregarded opposing fire and worked ahead in the face of bullets streaming from the pillbox. Finally reaching his objective, he stood up and inserted his explosive, silencing the enemy. He was wounded by a mortar shell but refused medical attention and, despite heavy hostile fire, moved swiftly among his troops exhorting and instructing them in subduing powerful opposition. Later, realizing the need for information of enemy activity beyond the hill, Capt. Brown went out alone to reconnoiter. He observed possible routes of enemy approach and several times deliberately drew enemy fire to locate gun emplacements. Twice more, on this self-imposed mission, he was wounded; but he succeeded in securing information which led to the destruction of several enemy guns and enabled his company to throw back 2 powerful counterattacks with heavy losses. Only when Company C's position was completely secure did he permit treatment of his 3 wounds. By his indomitable courage, fearless leadership, and outstanding skill as a soldier, Capt. Brown contributed in great measure to the taking of Crucifix Hill, a vital link in the American line encircling Aachen.
Sergeant Charles Brown (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on August 19, 1864 at Weldon Railroad, Virginia. His citation reads:
Capture of flag of 47th Virginia Infantry (C.S.A.).
