Disclaimer

If you do not know me (I mean, really know me) then there is something you need to understand before you read this blog: I value the truth above everything else... except a good laugh. A good laugh will almost always beat the truth as far as I’m concerned. Everything you read on this blog will be true, somewhat true, or something I made up in an effort to get a laugh. Sometimes I will go on a rant that I don’t really mean (or only kind of mean). Sometimes I will mean what I write only to completely change my mind a year, month, or day later. Such is life. By reading this blog you agree not to get offended by anything I write (or, at the very least, you agree not to tell me or anyone else that you are offended). It is worth noting that my employer does not endorse my blog (or even read it, to tell you the truth). The Wife also does not endorse my blog (though she will read it from time to time). I am not paid to write this... it’s just my way of giving back to the community. I have, and will, touch on a wide range of subjects and will give my opinion on these subjects. Again, most of what I say is for laughs but every now and then I will say what I really think and feel (see my views on Westboro Baptist Cult). How will you know when I’m serious and when I’m trying to get a laugh? You’ll know. And if you don’t know, well... maybe this isn’t the best thing for you to be reading. So, sit back, read and enjoy. Happy Veterans Day!

Well I had a great Veterans Day today. I watched an all day marathon of war/military related shows and movies... GI Joe (cartoon, not movie), Midway, Top Gun, Star Wars, NCIS, M*A*S*H... you know, all the good stuff. I also had my Dad come up and help me with a few home improvment projects The Wife wanted done. Of course, you have to understand that me saying I had my Dad help me with home improvement projects is like Dr. Watson saying he had Sherlock Holmes help him solve some cases. Anyway, it was fun and we got a lot of work done.

But really, I think I've told you on here before how much I respect veterans. They do something I'm not sure I'd be able to do. I've also told you about some books that all of you should read. Since I don't think you've read all of them yet, I will list them again for you:

Halsey’s Typhoon – A book about a typhoon during WWII that tossed around a bunch of aircraft carriers and battleships like they were little toys.

In Harm’s Way – About the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. One word... sharks.

We Were Soldiers Once... And Young – The movie was very close to the book... but the book was 100 times better. Amazing book.

Breakout – A book about the Chosin Reservoir Campaign in Korea (1950).

A Civil War: Army vs. Navy - While this book is about the Army/Navy football game, it is also a reminder that the guys who play in this game will one day serve in either the Army, Navy, or Marines. Great book. Go Navy! Beat Army!

Trust me, read these books and you'll have a whole new respect for people in the military and their family members.
